Teacher: Joelle Shenk
Limit: 25 students
Level: Introductory
Prerequisites: None
Curriculum Overview:
This course is designed to introduce students to the basics of theater. Each class starts with creative and exciting warm-ups utilizing music and movement to prepare students for that day's lessons. After warm-ups, students will be engaged in the hands-on learning of the following subjects: Face, Voice, Body, and Stage. Face/Voice; the students learn how to speak on stage with distinction and connect their facial expressions with the voice to express themselves. Body; the students learn the importance of warming up, how to carry themselves on stage and use their physicality to tell a story. Stage; students will be taught basic theater and stage terms and the foundations of acting technique. After the first two classes, which are dedicated primarily to learning all of the above mentioned, students will be cast and begin rehearsing a show. The show will be staged, costumed, and performed at the conclusion of the course.
