Second Stage

Classes run Thursdays, March 15 - May 24
(extra rehearsals the week of May 28-June1)
The workshop series will culminate in a performance on June 2, 2012.

Teachers: Joelle Shenk, Samantha Turlington
Limit: 10 students

Level: Experienced Beginner
Prerequisites: Invitation or Audition ONLY

Curriculum Overview:
After completing the Dramatic Mondays curriculum, students who wish to continue study are encouraged to audition for Second Stage. In this course students are given monologues and introduced to the workshop setting. The focus is on character development and solo stage presence. Each class begins with a warm-up reviewing the prerequisite material and prepping the students for workshop. The first few classes focus on cold reading techniques and learning how to slate. After the first monologues are assigned, students split into groups and work on their pieces. Each week, students are given aspects to work on and expected to bring their work to class the following week with the correct adjustments. The first monologues will be presented before the class and critiqued at the mid-term point and the second monologues will be assigned at that time. For the second half of the class, the students join together in a group workshop where they learn to give positive critique and comments to their fellow students. The class culminates in a final performance with costumes and staging.

Polices:

  • No dual enrollment. Only one class per student per semester.
  • Students may only repeat a given course once. After two semesters the student may apply again, but will be immediately placed on the waiting list. If there is an opening four weeks prior to the start of the course, the student will be accepted into the program.
  • Enrollment is on a first come first served basis.
  • Attendance is critical to the progress of the ensemble and participants need a consistent group to rehearse well. Only two classes can be missed. Once a third absence has occurred, the student may be asked to leave the program with no refund.
